Widely known as one of the cleanest lakes in Georgia, Lake Sinclair was created in 1953 with the creation of the Sinclair Dam on the Oconee River. The Dam is a hydroelectric generating station that is run by Georgia Power. Because of this the water levels always stay within 2 feet of the shoreline as the water is pumped through the Dam, creating a very small high and low tide. The Oconee River runs through Lake Sinclair, which is another reason why the lake stays so clean. Sand is deposited as the River runs through the lake creating many natural sand beaches along the shoreline. There are no fishing restrictions on this lake, meaning any fish you catch can be eaten, and several national and regional fishing tournaments are held on the lake every year. The lake has many public access points, including marinas, boat ramps, and parks. There are even a few restaurants on the lake that offer docks for boat parking. During the summer, and especially on holiday weekends that lake is filled with boats, jet skis, tubers, and swimmers enjoying some fun in the sun. Because of the mild spring, fall, and winter in the area, the lake can be enjoyed all year round! It covers 15,000 acres with approximately 417 miles of shoreline, most of those being homes to full time or part time residents. At it's deepest point the lake reaches to 90 ft deep. The main body of the lake is in Baldwin County and sits just outside of the city of Milledgeville, the old capital of Georgia and a thriving college town. The lake also touches Putnam and Hancock Counties. Lake Sinclair offers this area a huge amount of fun and recreation while also generating economic benefits and featuring beautiful high quality real estate!
